Trains in India

There have been so many interesting journeys in trains,i always loved traveling in trains right from when i was a kid

Although air travel is now more affordable and convenient traveling in the train is a different experience altogether.

The journey starts as soon as one gets into the train, hawkers keep dropping in asking you for tea, coffee etc etc .There are a few stares here and there from your co-passengers who will most probably join you till your destination.

There is a strange camaraderie which builds in as the journey goes in.There are so many interesting things happening around. The like the fact when there is a major stop at a station,i love to get on to the platform and pick up something to eat.

Another interesting thing is one can see the daily life which hinges on the railways.School children ,office goers hop in and hop out for a decent journey of anywhere between 30min to 1 hour.It is so very pleasant to see the countryside ,the hills ,the cows ,the people waiting patiently at the crossing, small kids waving at the passengers. and as the day goes by one can see farmers ploughing their lands.

I just love the eternal and the incessant sound of the rails and the tracks. So many distant lands ,distant people ,distant memories come back.

I hope i can find sometime soon and can travel once again, its been a while since i travelled by train :).

U've put it across so well. Trains have beeen a favourite with me too coz i get bus sick and car sick but never train sick.

So many times when I see those slums on the wayside i send up a prayer thanking God for the blessings i have received(does that make sense?:-))

actually in the 2nd sentence, i shd have added-'.....slums on the wayside(while looking out of the train window)i send up a prayer...'. There, does it make sense now:-)?

I have never travelled in trains all that much but in the movies I like those scenes where a bunch of friends travel on a train and have a ball. I'd like to do that.
And yes, I love to eat different stuff that the hawkers bring by but I am scared to really step off the train and wander about.
